KWACHA COMMUNITY-ACTION RESEARCH UNIT
Kwacha’s Community-Action Research Unit was born out of the “Creating Conversations” project with a PhD partner at the University of Auckland. 18 members of our organization participated in a three-day intensive workshop to learn about community-action research as a methodology as well as how to use and analyze different methods for collecting data. From this group, six youth members formed a community research team to put these new skills into practice.
Our research unit now has the capacity to collect, analyze and disseminate data in a means which places important community issues in the wider societal context. Our research team members are fully capable to conduct reviews of literature, conduct focus groups, individual interviews, photo voice, and lead baraza. Research team members were trained to perform transcription, can conduct translation, code data manually, and work together in a team environment to find the best way forward with our partner communities.
